A 10years old girl and her sibling, a 4years old girl were both diagnosed as suffering from ‘MOYAMOYA’ ,a condition mostly found in Japan and Korea and which causes repeated paralytic strokes.
The term ‘MOYAMOYA actually means a ‘puff of smoke’ in Japanese. It is characterised by blockage of blood vessels that supply blood to the brain.Caused due to the constriction of arteries in the brain, which in turn causes blood clots and stoppage of blood supply to the brain, causing strokes . If untreated the condition can prove fatal.
Both the girls underwent two surgeries, the surgeries successfully carried out by Dr Paritosh Pandey, Manipal hospital’s consultant neuro-surgeon.
