A nineteen years old girl lost both her hands in an accident. She has been given new hands from another accident victim who died in a similar road accident.

The plastic & reconstructive surgery department of Amritha Hospital ,cohin performed the surgery, the first of its kind in India.Such surgeries have so far been performed only in America, Germany, Poland and Mexico. This was the first ‘Double upper arm transplant surgery in Asia. It also happens to be the first in the world where a male patients arms have been attached to a female.
A team of twenty surgeons and sixteen anesthetists took 14 hours to complete this successful surgery. Continuous physio-therapy is being done to give the attached arms mobility but it will take a few months for the arms to develop the sense of touch..
Advancements in medical science and the diligence of the doctors have given this 19 year-old engineering student a new
active life…!!
