Some facts about the ‘sweet Disease’.

  1. Type 2 Diabetes is the largest pandemic in the history of mankind,
  2. It is complex with a strong association with hypertension, obesity,and cardiac diseases leading to large morbidity &mortality.
  3. Worldwide, one in two adults with Diabetes is undiagnosed.
  4. Type 1 Diabetes is seen generally in younger individuals with an absolute deficiency of insulin secretion and require life-long multiple doses of insulin.
  5. Type2 has relative insulin deficiency more commonly seen in adults.
  6. The pathogenesis of type2 diabetes is called ‘ Ominous Octet’ with eight possible causes of diabetes.
  7. Diabetes is more or less a ‘silent disease’ as most patients have no symptoms.
  8. Glycosylated Haemoglobin(HbA1c) is an important measure in determining control.
  9. Education is the foundation, diet and exercise being the corner-stones of treatment
  10. Regular monitoring and follow-up can prevent and certainly postpone complications.
