A study ,published in the Canadian Medical Association journal has warned that ‘artificial sweeteners may be associated with long-term weight gain and increased risk of obesity and heart disease.
These sweeteners that are substitutes for sugar provide the sweet taste but contain significantly less food energy. The findings showed that these non-nutritive sweeteners may have negative effect on metabolism, gut bacteria and appetite. Thus,those, consuming artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, sucralose and stevis may also be at risk of developing high blood pressure, heart disease, .Studies and trials did not support the intended benefits of their use in weight management.
