Older women who undergo cataract surgery to correct their vision tend to live longer!!
Having had a cataract surgery was associated with a 60% reduced risk of death from all causes and a 37 to 69% reduced risk of death from accidents , infectious pulmonary, neurological, vascular diseases and cancer.
Prior studies have suggested that an association between cataract surgery and decreased risk of all-cause mortality could potentially be attributed to improved health status, functional independence, and lower risk of fall and fracture. Further studies have shown that patients have higher scores on standardised cognition assessments after cataract surgery.
